[Poem] "Miscarriage"

Something spawned from the chopped-up bones of the poem I tried to write for World Poetry Day.

“Miscarriage”

Born Monday, March 26, 2012, at 9:15pm.

In the aftermath,
you borrow his arms, feeling
nothing and everything at once:
the pain of an embryonic love
not taking;
the gut-deep pang of knowing
it had been there,
it had almost happened–
but the sparks had never burned,
only flew.

So, in the end, you
hold him,
hold each other, settling
for almost real, almost
as if you’d met in the middle
instead of falling
but falling short.

Died Monday, March 26, 2012, at 9:45pm.
